Item A rare case of calcinosis cutis in rheumatoid arthritis(جامعة الشيخ عبدالله البدري, 2020-12-02) Wafaa Hassan Ahmed Albashir; Rihab Mohamed Hassan Ali,; Sufian Khalid M Nor,; Sara yassin,; Mosab Nouraldein Mohammed HamadAbstract Calcinosis cutis is a rare disorder characterized by of deposition of insoluble calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Five subtypes of calcinosis cutis are described: dystrophic, metastatic, idiopathic, iatrogenic, and calciphylaxis.1 Of these subtypes, dystrophic calcinosis (DC) is the most common, and it is the most frequently seen in association with underlying autoimmune connective tissue diseases.2 Dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis and less commonly systemic lupus erythematous were described to be complicated by DC. However, DC associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is extremely rare.2 The condition causes substantial morbidity and is associated with pain and limitation of movement when the process involves areas close to joints or when ulceration occurs.2 We report a middle age Sudanese woman with good controlled RA who developed dystrophic calcinosis cutis.Item Detection of Antifungal Activity of Cinnamon Extract on Candida Species Isolated from Diabetic Patients with Urinary Tract Infection Pre-COVID-19 Era(جامعة الشيخ عبدالله البدري, 2022-02-27) Waleed O.A. KaramAlla; Hadia Abass Eltaib; Ghanem M. Mahjaf; Mosab Nouraldein Mohammed HamadAbstract: This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of Cinnamon extract on Candida species isolated from 100 diabetic patients suffering from urinary tract infection between May to August 2018. Twenty-five Candida species were isolated, different Candida species were isolated then identified biochemically, in vitro sensitivity testing using well diffusion technique against Cinnamon extract was done. The cinnamon extract showed good antifungal activity against Candida species. The largest zone of inhibition against Candida tropicalis was (25 mm) and the least zone of inhibition was against Candida kefyr was (10 mm). The results of antimicrobial activity of crude extract were compared with the positive control (Clotrimazole) for evaluating their relative percentage inhibition and statistical significance the aqueous extract exhibited maximum relative percentage inhibition against Candida kefyr (89%) and minimum relative percentage inhibition against Candida glabrata was (12.3%). The p. values (0.018) are statistically significant.Item Sero-epidemiology of Plasmodium vivax infection among Sudanese’s and Ethiopians in Khartoum State(جامعة الشيخ عبدالله البدري, 2019-09-26) Mohanad E Alfadol; Mohammed Medani Eltayeb; Mosab Nouraldein Mohammed HamadAbstract Background: Plasmodium vivax is most widely distributed in the world, and to be considered absent from western Africa, where the prevalence of Duffy negative red blood cell phenotype proves to be high. Objectives: This study aimed at determines the prevalence of Plasmodium vivax among Sudanese and Ethiopians individuals in relation to hematological parameter effect. Methods: This was across-sectional descriptive study involving 1200 individual (600 Sudanese and 600 Ethiopians) form different age groups during the period June 2015 to February 2018. Results: The prevalence of Plasmodium vivax among 1200 individuals, of whom 600 were Sudanese and 600 were Ethiopians subjected to screening by ICTs and blood films tests, showed that 100 (8.3%) gave positive results, out of them (2.08%) Sudanese whereas were (6.25%) became Ethiopians survived population were divided in to five age groups (5- 15),(15-25),(25-35) and( more than 35 years). The positive case within each age groups showed (13.7%), (1.1%), (.71%) and (0.0%) respectively among Sudanese and (2.8%), (13.6%), (10%) and (27.3%) respectively among Ethiopians. The results showed the hematological effected among Sudanese groups, 96% were thrombocytopenia, 80% leucopenia and 88% anemia. Other parameter MCV(48%), MCH(60%), and MCHC(70%). Where were 70% thrombocytopenia, 40% leucopenia and 53% anemia, MCV (16%), MCH (26%) and MCHC (33%) among Ethiopian groups. Conclusion: The sero-prevalence of Plasmodium vivax is relatively low among Sudanese than Ethiopian. Thrombocytopenia, anemia and leucopenia is most frequency in Plasmodium vivax infection.Item Value of serum calcium in preeclamptic Sudanese women(جامعة الشيخ عبدالله البدري, 2022-12-30) Salmma MA Abdulla; Samah Karoum,; Sahar Fadul,; AbulGasim Karoum; Mihad Mobark; Zohal AA Abdalla; Mohammed AS Mohammed; Mosab Nouraldein Mohammed Hamad; Mamoun MagzoubAbstract Background: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-related hypertensive disorder occurring in the second half of the pregnancy and is one of the major causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Though the etiology is obscure, recent studies indicate that the levels of serum calcium may play a role in the development of preeclampsia. The aim of this study to find out the relationship of serum calcium in preeclamptic pregnancies compared to normal pregnancies. Methods: This was a case control study carried out at Bahari Hospital which included 100 women with preeclampsia in the third trimester of pregnancy as a study group and 100 healthy pregnant women in their third trimester of pregnancy as a control group with similar maternal and gestational age. The concentration of the corrected total serum calcium was measured by measuring total serum calcium and serum albumin using a spectrophotometric method. Data was analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. Results: The age of the participants was (18-45) years old, with gestational age ranging from (34-36) weeks, there was no significant difference between the two groups in their age, gestational age, with p value (0.5) and (0.2) respectively. Plasma calcium level was lower in preeclamptic women as compared to healthy control subject, the mean value of plasma calcium levels were (7.1±0.8) mg/dl and (9.6±0.4) mg/dl, in study and control groups respectively, the difference in the mean were statistically significant with p value (0.001). Conclusion: Hypocalcaemia related to preeclampsia supports the hypothesis that alternation in the total serum calcium levels may be involved in the possible pathogenesis of preeclampsia.
